Help for impotence - I want to try Prolargent 5x5 Extreme

Question

I am a 35-year-old man and have been impotent since I was 32. Otherwise I am healthy, a non-smoker and moderate drinker.

The problem came on over a period of about a month while I was splitting up with my then girlfriend.
full erection

I initially assumed this was the cause and expected full function to return of its own accord a few weeks after we split up.

After about 18 months I was still completely out of action and tried taking a herbal remedy (Ginko Biloba) for three months, to no effect.

I now think that the cause may be physical, because I don't get a full erection at any time, eg at night or on waking in the morning (it's not only with a woman that there is little response).
My sexual desire is at normal level.

I went to my GP and he did an examination and many tests. Everything was normal except testosterone, which was low.
This was confirmed by a repeat test, but he seemed reluctant to prescribe anything as it was not exceptionally low.
I was referred to a hormone specialist who did more tests. Again, testosterone was the only low one.

During the examination she remarked that I have less chest hair than normal. Also, I have enlarged male breasts (gynaecomastia), which is noticeable but not severe.
I am now on a nine-month waiting list for counselling, but I am unconvinced that the cause is not physical.

I want to try Prolargent 5x5 Extreme  Do you think it is worth trying?
Incidentally, I have always had problems using condoms (often losing an erection while putting one on) and I wonder whether this has anything to do with it?

Answer

I feel pretty optimistic that your problem can be sorted.
Despite what you say, it's highly likely that there is at least some psychological element - this is almost always the case when a guy has trouble putting condoms on.
However, the fact that your testosterone level is a bit low may be significant.
You don't say whether it was actually outside the normal limits, as opposed to just the low end of normal. If it was, it's puzzling that you haven't been offered hormone therapy.
Regarding Prolargent 5x5 Extreme, doctors vary in their views, but if you were my patient, I'd certainly give it a try

Bear in mind that you don't qualify for this treatment on the NHS, so you would find it quite expensive.

problems

Final thought: have you had a check on your level of the hormone prolactin?
Any male who has erectile dysfunction (ED) and enlarged breasts needs to have this hormone measured, since over-production of it can cause these problems.

5 natural ways to overcome erectile dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction (ED) can occur for many reasons. Sometimes it is as simple as the side effect of a particular medication. But for roughly 75% of men, the cause is more complex. ED may result from vascular disease, neurological disease, or diabetes, or the result of prostate-related treatments or surgeries.

exercies

Whether you suffer from ED or are hoping to sidestep this condition, try these tips for better health and a better sex life.
    ed
  1. Start walking. According to one Harvard study, just 30 minutes of walking a day was linked with a 41% drop in risk for ED. Other research suggests that moderate exercise can help restore sexual performance in obese middle-aged men with ED.
  2. Eat right. In the Massachusetts Male Aging Study, eating a diet rich in fruit, vegetables, whole grains, and fish — with fewer red and processed meat and refined grains — decreased the likelihood of ED. Another tip: a chronic deficiency in vitamin B12 may contribute to erectile dysfunction. A daily multivitamin and fortified foods are the best bets for those who absorb B12 poorly, including many older adults.
  3. Pay attention to your vascular health. High blood pressure, high blood sugar, high cholesterol and triglycerides can damage arteries in the heart (causing heart attack), in the brain (causing stroke), and leading to the penis (causing ED). Low levels of HDL (good) cholesterol and an expanding waistline also contribute. Check with your doctor to find out whether your vascular system — and thus your heart, brain, and penis — is in good shape or needs a tune-up through lifestyle changes and, if necessary, medications.
  4. Size matters, so get slim and stay slim. A trim waistline is one good defense — a man with a 42-inch waist is 50% more likely to have ED than one with a 32-inch waist. Getting to a healthy weight and staying there is another good strategy for avoiding or fixing ED. Obesity raises risks for vascular disease and diabetes, two major causes of ED. And excess fat interferes with several hormones that may be part of the problem as well.
  5. Move a muscle, but we’re not talking about your biceps. A strong pelvic floor enhances rigidity during erections, and helps keep blood from leaving the penis by pressing on a key vein. In a British trial, three months of twice-daily sets of Kegel exercises which strengthen these muscles, combined with biofeedback and advice on lifestyle changes — quitting smoking, losing weight, limiting alcohol — worked far better than just advice on lifestyle changes.

5 Common Causes of Impotence

If there’s one condition that men hope to never get, it’s erectile dysfunction (ED). A man’s ability to get and sustain an erection is often equated with virility and masculinity. The inability to do so can greatly affect men’s self-esteem.
To help avoid preventable causes of impotence, it’s important to understand what may cause the condition.
Impotence can arise through multiple causes, both physical and psychological. Though it’s often assumed that such problems can be blamed on what’s in your head, only 15 percent are attributable to purely psychological causes

5x5 extreme

Take Care of Your Heart

A number of related heart conditions are common causes of ED, including:
·         high blood pressure
·         high cholesterol
·         clogged blood vessels (atherosclerosis)
·         heart disease
In fact, according to UMMC, men with ED are at higher risk to have a heart attack or stroke. Close to half of all men with ED also have high blood pressure. Diabetes, which is also associated with cardiovascular disease, is another risk factor for impotence

Brain and Hormones

Several neurologic and central nervous system conditions—such as stroke, Parkinson’s disease, and multiple sclerosis—have been linked to ED. Other causes are hormonal in nature, for example: troubles with the pituitary gland that lead to too-high levels of the hormone prolactin, and low levels of the hormone testosterone.
However, while decreased testosterone is often blamed for impotence, UMMC reports that testosterone levels are only responsible for about 5 percent of ED cases

Injury Impacts

Some types of physical trauma and injury—particularly those that affect the pelvic area or spinal cord—may cause nerve damage that leads to erectile dysfunction. The following surgeries also can cause a decrease in or loss of sexual function:
·         orthopedic surgery
·         fistula surgery
·         surgeries for prostate, colon, or rectal cancer
NOTE: Vasectomies are not linked with ED.

SEXMedication and Dysfunction

A long list of drugs may affect sexual performance and cause impotence. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has identified many medications—both prescription and nonprescription—that can lead to ED in some men, including:
·         antidepressants
·         antihistamines
·         hypertension medicines
·         medications for Parkinson’s disease
However, these medications don’t affect all men in the same way. While some may experience signs of ED from use of certain medications, others may not.

It’s Not All Physical

Mental health conditions and psychological states can also cause ED. Depression, anxiety, stress, relationship difficulties, and poor communication all may interfere with sexual feelings and could cause or worsen erection problems.
Anxiety is one of the most common contributors to psychological impotence according to UMMC. Relationship problems often directly impact sexual performance—particularly if anger and tension arise between partners.

erectile dysfunction

Staying Healthy and Happy

Though not all causes of impotence are equally preventable, you can make a difference in the condition by making smart choices. Quit smoking, lose weight, and exercise often. These simple lifestyle changes can help circumvent underlying problems that may lead to ED.
Other actions that might help include improving communication in your relationships and seeking treatment for alcohol or drug problems. By practicing healthy habits, you can decrease your chance of developing ED.

1. The Basic Stretch

It is important to warm up the muscles in your penis and get blood flowing through the shaft. This is a natural male enhancement technique that will create an elongated penis. It is also easy to do and there is no risk of injury if followed correctly. Your member should be flaccid before performing this exercise. Stand up and gently lift your penis with your hands. You should not pull on it. Hold the penis in a horizontal stretch for approximately 30 seconds. Gently bring your penis back to starting position. Continue doing the basic stretch for a total of five repetitions.

2. Jelquing

In order to entrap blood in the penis to maintain a larger size for an extended period of time you need to hold your member firmly at the base of the penis and slowly slide it to the tip of your shaft. It should take up to three minutes to slide your hand up your member. Continue to do this as many times as you would like. You should notice more girth and be able to feel the blood flow in your penis. This techniques can be performed as often as.

5. PC Clenches

male enhancer The PC muscles control the flow of urine and can increase blood flow to the penis. PC clenches can entrap the blood and oxygen into the shaft. To perform these exercise correctly simply hold the PC muscle until the blood flows to your erect penis causing it to expand. This natural male enhancer can be performed up to 150 times a day. However, beginners should aim for just 50 clenches.

If you are looking for natural male enhancement techniques, you can increase blood flow and oxygen to your shaft without using creams, or vacuum suction devices. Look for gentle, safe solutions.

Why Your Premature Ejaculation Problem Is All In Your Head

It may sound impossible, even ridiculous, to suggest that your premature ejaculation problem is actually all in your mind. How can such a staggering, frustrating and debilitating problem be completely mental? I'll describe why this is the case and how you can even put it to the test to prove that your premature ejaculation problem is actually a mental problem.

sex +

First of all, sex in general is very much mental. So much of how we treat the idea of sex and how we approach the act of sex is layered in an enormous amount of anxiety, tension, nervousness, uncertainty, and confusion. Just thinking about sex or talking about it causes many of these issues to surface. One can imagine the act of sexual activity is layered even heavier with the above issues.

sexual activity

Nervousness, anxiety and stress are direct causes of premature ejaculation. Many guys have heard the locker room talk regarding an extremely attractive female and how it would be hard to last long if one had sex with her. Why is this? It's because the mind becomes overwhelmed with the attractiveness of the female so much so that it gets turned on very quickly and in turn one will likely ejaculate very quickly. There is also the male notion of wanting to impress the extremely attractive woman. There is a major nervous effort put forth to impress, which leads to a high stress, which in turn leads to quick ejaculation. So this shows how powerful the mind is for building up such staggering amounts of anxiety, and how this easily leads to ejaculating very quickly.

5x5 extremeAnother related mental aspect is masturbation. Most guys discover masturbation on their own and there is never a "guide book" discussing how long one should masturbate before actual ejaculation is to occur. Since there is no time limit, naturally the act is performed as quickly as possible. There is no mental effort to hold off ejaculation. So guys end up training their mind to ejaculate as quickly as possible. This is another negative mental anchor leading to guys coming too quick during sex.

Now for the trick to show you how powerful the mind can be when it comes to lasting longer in bed.

Many guys have heard of the "thinking about sports during sex to last longer in bed" trick. But have you ever actually tried it? Well, if you have, then you know that it actually works. How can this be? Your quick ejaculation issue is supposed to be some physical type of problem, yet here you are thinking about fourth down and four yards to go and what kind of play you are going to run and before you know it you've lasted an additional five minutes.

This proves hands down that premature ejaculating is a mental problem.

After all, you've essentially just cured the problem by thinking about a football game. Imagine if you could work harder on mentally curing this problem without having to think about linebackers and tight ends!

What is Premature Ejaculation?

sexual intercourse

Premature ejaculation happens when a man ejaculates earlier during sexual intercourse than they or their partner would like. If it happens infrequently, it's not cause for concern. However, if you regularly ejaculate sooner than you and your partner wish — such as before intercourse begins or shortly afterward it can be considered premature ejaculation.
Premature ejaculation is a common sexual complaint. It estimates vary, but as many as 1 out of 3 men may be affected by this problem at some time.
Both psychological and biological factors can play a role in premature ejaculation. Although many men feel embarrassed to talk about it, premature ejaculation is a common and treatable condition.
Medications, psychological counseling and sexual techniques that delay ejaculation can improve sex for you and your partner. For many men, a combination of treatments works best.

regularly ejaculate

Symptoms
The primary sign of premature ejaculation is ejaculation that occurs before both partners wish, causing concern or stress. However, the problem may occur in all sexual situations, even including during masturbation.
prolargent5x5Doctors generally classify premature ejaculation as either lifelong (primary) or acquired (secondary).
According to the International Society for Sexual Medicine, lifelong premature ejaculation is characterized by:
·         Ejaculation that always or nearly always occurs within one minute of vaginal penetration
·         The inability to delay ejaculation on all or nearly all vaginal penetrations
·         Negative personal consequences, such as stress, frustration or the avoidance of sexual intimacy
Secondary premature ejaculation is generally understood to share the same symptoms as lifelong premature ejaculation, but with one key difference:
·         Secondary ejaculation develops after you've had previous, satisfying sexual relationships without ejaculatory problems

Causes

The exact cause of premature ejaculation isn't known. While it was once thought to be only psychological, doctors now know premature ejaculation is more complicated and involves a complex interaction of both psychological and biological factors.

Men Impotence Linked to Restless Legs Syndrome

The more frequent the symptoms, the stronger the connection, study finds.

The study, by researchers from Harvard University, builds on earlier research by the scientists that found that impotence, or erectile dysfunction, was more common among older men with restless legs syndrome — and the more frequent the symptoms of the sleep disorder the higher the risk of impotence.

sex guide

For the new study, the researchers started with more than 11,000 men, with an average age of 64 at the start of the trial in 2002, who did not suffer from impotence, diabetes or arthritis. The trial, called the Health Professionals Follow-up Study, began with the men answering a standardized set of health-related questions.

Men were considered to have restless legs syndrome (RLS) if they met four RLS diagnostic criteria recommended by the International RLS Study Group and had symptoms more than five times a month.

erection problems

The researchers went on to identify 1,979 cases of erectile dysfunction. And men with restless legs syndrome were approximately 50 percent more likely to become impotent, compared to men without the syndrome, even after the researchers compensated for the participants' age, weight, whether they smoked or used antidepressants, as well as the presence of several chronic diseases.

prolargent5x5Men who experienced restless legs syndrome symptoms up to 14 times a month were 68 percent more likely to struggle with erectile dysfunction, the study found.

The research was presented at SLEEP 2011, the annual meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies, in Minneapolis. Because the study was presented at a medical meeting, the conclusions should be viewed as preliminary until published in a peer-reviewed journal.

In the Jan. 1, 2010, issue of the journal Sleep, the same researchers reported that erectile dysfunction was more common among older men with restless legs syndrome than those without RLS, and the link was stronger among men with a higher frequency of restless legs symptoms.

"The mechanisms underlying the association between RLS and erectile dysfunction could be caused by hypofunctioning of [the brain chemical] dopamine in the central nervous system, which is associated with both conditions," study lead author Dr. Xiang Gao, an instructor at Harvard Medical School and an associate epidemiologist at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, said at the time.

health professional

According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, restless legs syndrome triggers a powerful urge to move the legs, which become uncomfortable when lying down or sitting. Some people describe it as a creeping, crawling, tingling or burning sensation. Moving makes your legs feel better, but the relief doesn't last. Typically, there is no known cause for restless legs syndrome. In some cases, it can be caused by a disease or condition, such as anemia or pregnancy. Caffeine, tobacco and alcohol may make symptoms worse.

Erectile Dysfunction and Diabetes

It is been estimated that about 35%-75% of men with diabetes will experience at least some degree of erectile dysfunction -- also called ED or impotence -- during their lifetime.

premature ejaculation

Men with diabetes tend to develop erectile dysfunction 10 to 15 years earlier than men without diabetes. As men with diabetes age, erectile dysfunction becomes even more common. Above the age of 50, the likelihood of having difficulties with an erection occurs in approximately 50%-60% of men with diabetes. Above age 70, there is about a 95% likelihood of having some difficulty with erectile function.
Why Do Men With Diabetes Have Erectile Dysfunction?

The causes of erectile dysfunction in men with diabetes are complex and involve impairments in nerve, blood vessel, and muscle function.

To get an erection, men need healthy blood vessels, nerves, male hormones, and a desire to be sexually stimulated. Diabetes can damage the blood vessels and nerves that control erection. Therefore, even if you have normal amounts of male hormones and you have the desire to have sex, you still may not be able to achieve a firm erection.

What Treatments Are Available for Men With Diabetes and Erectile Dysfunction?

erectile dysfunction
Men with diabetes having trouble with achieving and/or maintaining an erection can take oral medications like Viagra, Cialis, Stendra, or Levitra.

However, because people with diabetes also tend to have problems with their heart, these medications may not be appropriate and cause dangerous interactions with your heart medicine. Talk to your doctor to determine what treatment is best.

Additional treatments men with diabetes might want to consider include intracavernous injection therapy, vacuum constriction devices, intraurethral therapy, and sex therapy.

So what treatment is best? It depends on many factors including a man's health and his ability to tolerate the treatment. Ask your doctor if you should see a specialist (a urologist) to determine the best treatment for your situation.

Atherosclerosis and Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction is a widespread problem. Up to 39% of 40-year-old men report some degree of erectile dysfunction, and two-thirds of men over age 70 have significant symptoms.

Erectile dysfunction isn't life-threatening, but that doesn't mean it's not serious. Men with erectile dysfunction (ED) are more likely to feel depressed and report less enjoyment in life.

Thanks to advertisements for drugs that treat it, you may have heard more about erectile dysfunction than you ever cared to. But did you know that atherosclerosis -- hardening of the arteries -- is the main cause of ED?

The link between atherosclerosis and erectile dysfunction is well known to doctors. If you have ED, understanding the connection might just save your life.

Atherosclerosis and Erectile Dysfunction: Slowing the Rush

The blood supply to the penis comes from arteries in the abdomen (belly). Smaller arteries branch off to carry blood down into the penis. When it's time for an erection, these arteries dilate. More blood flows into the penis, causing it to swell.

The rush of blood creates high pressure in the penis that also slows down the flow of blood out of the penis. This produces a firm erection that can be maintained until orgasm -- if the blood vessels are healthy.

Atherosclerosis and Erectile Dysfunction: Dam Blockages?

To get and maintain an erection, blood vessels in the penis have to be robust, to rapidly increase blood flow. Erectile dysfunction usually means blood vessels everywhere aren't in perfect health. This can be a signal of increased risk, long before blockages from atherosclerosis form.

To understand what goes wrong, think of blood flow as a river over a dam. Engineers control the flow: they can increase flow to make rapids, or narrow it to a trickling stream.

A similar mechanism is at work in your arteries. In your penis, blood flow needs to open wide during sexual arousal. Likewise, you need wide open blood flow to your heart's arteries during exercise. The inside lining of blood vessels (endothelium) releases chemicals on demand to accomplish this.

The endothelium can be damaged by high cholesterol, high blood pressure, smoking, or diabetes. They also cause atherosclerosis.

Once damaged, the endothelium can't expand arteries to increase blood flow as well. Less blood flow into the penis means a less firm erection.

Erectile Dysfunction: Psychological Causes

Erectile Dysfunction: Psychological Causes

prolargent 5x5 extreme

Psychological factors are responsible for about 10%-20% of all cases of erectile dysfunction, or ED. It is often a secondary reaction to an underlying physical cause. In some cases, the psychological effects of ED may stem from childhood abuse or sexual trauma. However, the most common psychological causes of ED include:

Stress: Stress can be job-related, money-related, or the result of marital problems, among other factors.
Anxiety: Once a man experiences ED, he may become overly worried that the problem will happen again. This can lead to "performance anxiety," or a fear of sexual failure, and consistently lead to ED.

Guilt: A man may feel guilty that he is not satisfying his partner.

Depression: A common cause of ED, depression affects a person physically and psychologically. Depression can cause ED even when a man is completely comfortable in sexual situations. Drugs used to treat depression may also cause ED.

Psychological Causes

Low self-esteem: This can be due to prior episodes of ED (thus a feeling of inadequacy) or can be the result of other issues unrelated to sexual performance.
Indifference: This may come as a result of age and a subsequent loss of interest in sex, be the result of medications or stemming from problems in a couple's relationship.
All men at one time or another will experience ED. Only if the problem becomes persistent -- occurs more than half the time -- or becomes a source of distress for you or your partner should you be concerned and consider seeking medical advice and treatment. For men whose erectile dysfunction is caused by psychological problems, therapy may be needed.

While many drugs used to treat high blood pressure have been linked to erectile dysfunction, some are much less likely than others to cause problems. Certain high blood pressure drugs may even improve erectile dysfunction for some men.

It's known that diuretics (or water pills, like hydrochlorothiazide) and beta-blockers (like Atenolol) can also cause erection problems. These are also the first drugs that a doctor is likely to prescribe if you are not able to lower your high blood pressure through diet and exercise.

If you take a diuretic, you should stay on it until high blood pressure is under control. If erection problems persist, or blood pressure goes back up, then your doctor might switch to a drug that's less likely to cause erectile dysfunction. Or, a combination of medications might work better to control high blood pressure and lower the risk of erectile dysfunction.

If you take a beta blocker, you may also want to ask your doctor if it might cause erectile dysfunction. You might be better off on a medication less likely to cause a problem.

Erectile Dysfunction

High Blood Pressure Drugs Not Likely to Cause ED

Some families of high blood pressure drugs rarely cause ED as a side effect. They include:

ACE inhibitors
Alpha-blockers
Calcium channel blockers
ARBs
ACE (angiotensin converting enzyme) inhibitors -- such as Capoten, Lotensin, Prinivil, and Zestril for example -- widen blood vessels and increase blood flow. Erectile dysfunction is rarely a side effect, occurring in less than 1% of patients. There are several different drugs in this category. This seems to be true of all of them.

There are also drugs known as calcium channel blockers, such as Amlodipine, Diltiazem, or Verapamil. As a group, they rarely cause erectile dysfunction. But erection problems may be less common with some individual drugs within that group than with others. Your doctor can tell you which.

In general, alpha-blockers do not often cause erection problems either. In one study, a small number of men actually had a 100% improvement in their erectile dysfunction after 2 years on the alpha-blocker Cardura.

Drugs known as ARBs (angiotensin II receptor blockers, like Losartan) are not only unlikely to cause erection problems, but they may improve sexual function in men with high blood pressure.

Effective Penis Enlargement Exercises

Top Effective Penis Enlargement Exercises

prolargent 5x5 extreme

Every man wishes, or hopes rather, to be well-endowed in terms of penis size. While genetics can play somewhat of a factor as to what your junk would be like, there really isn’t much you can do to drastically change your penis size.
Or so we all thought.
Nowadays, thanks to advances in science, technology and health there are now methods that you can use to increase your penis size. One of the breakthroughs is penis enlargement are simple to do exercises that can help improve length and girth. These exercises can help benefit any man, regardless of the size of his penis.
Here are the top exercises you can do to gain a few inches and feel more like the man you want to be:

1. Stretch It Out

Stretch It OutOne method you can use to increase your penis size through exercise is to stretch it out. What you need to do is hold your penis by the head upwards and stretch, counting to ten. After, stretch it to other directions such as to the left and to the right while doing the same counting patterns for five minutes a day. Think about it like stretching your neck, only your neck won’t grow longer but your junk surely will.

2. Yanking Your Chain

Another exercise
Another exercise to increase penis size involves holding the tip of your dick again. This time, you will need to stretch it away from your body using one hand. Then, using your other hand, place the thumb at the lower portion of the penis where the base is. Do this while stretching out your penis and hold it for ten seconds. Do this exercise for five minutes once or twice a day but never more than that.

3. Maintaining the Gains

penis exercisesDoing exercises using the programs you will use should be enough to ensure that the gains you get from them will be permanent. Just like exercising different parts of your body, your penis should also receive formidable gains when you perform exercises with it. The good news is, once you get the size you want, you will no longer lose it.

4. Pull It Backwards

penis
With this exercise, you will need to pull the skin of your penis backwards moving into your body by using your thumbs. The rest of your fingers will be underneath the shaft to provide support. While holding it firmly for tens seconds, be sure that you do not grab it too tight as to cut off circulation. Do this for five minutes a day as well.

5. Pulling in Opposite Directions

penisThis one may seem to be a horrifying idea for some men, but you also need to try it out. One hand should be on the tip and the other on the base. What you need to do is to stretch out your penis by pulling it in opposite directions, similar to what you would do to taffy. Again, do this for five minutes a day with ten second intervals.

6. The Hands That Rock the Cradle

penis enlargement
A majority of the exercises will include the use of your hands and in some cases your partner’s hands as well. While other devices sold in the market can help, penis enlargement exercises through the use of hands are the best to increase its size.

Penis enlargement

Overview

sex pills

Procedures range from manual exercises to stretching devices and surgical procedures, with reports of successes and failures around the world. While some techniques are known to be outright hoaxes, others can produce some measure of success. Often, in the advertising of fraudulent products, the distinction between temporary enlargement, i.e. erection, and permanent enlargement, is deliberately muddied.
Little legitimate scientific research has been done specifically on the subject of non-surgical penile enlargement; existing claims of significant and permanent enlargement are generally anecdotal, unverified by objective research, and can be biased by the interests and emotions of the source. At present, there is no proof of any non-surgical technique that permanently increases either the thickness or length of a normal penis. Some general research has been done regarding the safety and efficacy (or lack thereof) of the ingredients of various pharmaceutical or quasi-pharmaceutical preparations; but thus far, nothing has emerged to cause mainstream medicine to adopt any of them. There are also risks inherent in some of the more invasive procedures, with negative outcomes ranging from the tearing of skin and scarring, to permanent loss of sexual function. Due to the speculative nature of any hope for "improvement", social controversy due to the sexual nature of the topic, and the many known cases of permanent injury involved in the endeavor, many medical professionals are sceptical of the subject, and tend to avoid work in this field.

Much of the marketing of commercial penis-enlarging treatments is based on unproven assertions that a larger penis enhances sexual prowess, and general attractiveness to potential mates. Enlargement of a normal penis is distinguished from seeking relief from the recognized medical condition of micropenis, where surgery to increase the organ's size is sometimes needed for urinary or sexual purposes. Anxiety about the size of one's penis may be (in extreme cases) a psychological/psychiatric condition best dealt with by qualified medical practitioners.

There are several surgical treatments, all carrying a risk of significant complications. The Second International Consultation on Sexual Dysfunctionsconcluded,
Most men will not wish to proceed to surgery when properly informed of the likely outcome and risks of complications

Physical techniques

A variety of physical therapy techniques have been used in an attempt to enlarge the human penis. To date, none has been scientifically proven to be effective. Generally, the techniques involve stretching, elongation by the use of small weights, or increasing the bloodflow and/or blood pressure in the penis. There is also significant overlap between techniques intended to enlarge the penis and techniques intended to achieve other, related objectives, such as reversing impotence, extending the duration of erections, or enhancing sexual climax.
